• Caption: OTTAWA, ON; April 22, 2008 -- Panelist Marion Dewar at the Citizen's Inquiry into the Impacts of the Uranium Cycle held in Ottawa at Rideau Park United Church. The inquiry has been sparked by potential uranium exploration and mining north of Sharbot Lake. On February 27, 2008 Ottawa City Council passed a motion to petition the Province of Ontario and Premier Dalton McGuinty to a moratorium on uranium prospecting, exploration, and mining in Eastern Ontario and the Ottawa River watershed until environmental, health, and native land claims are resolved. The city is also petitioning the Province of Ontario to undertake an immediate comprehensive public review of the Mining Act, 1990.
